Top 5 romantic drives to make you fall in love with Canada

If you’re looking for a unique date idea and wondering what you can do to wow your partner in a way that’s unconventional, why not take a road trip? Fortunately, we live in a country full of natural beauty waiting to be uncovered and explored. Hop into your car and spend some quality time on a romantic drive, while falling in love with Canada all over again! After all, there’s nothing more Canadian than hitting the open road… never mind the destination, it’s the journey that counts!

Before heading out on a road trip, ensure your vehicle is in tip-top shape to avoid any potential mishaps along the way. This includes ensuring you’ve installed good wiper blades and tires, making sure your battery is in good condition and packing an emergency kit. A little planning goes a long way in guaranteeing an adventure that’s safe and memorable for all of the right reasons.

To inspire you before you go, we’ve put together the top romantic destination drives our big and beautiful country has to offer. Best of all, take in the sights with our all-Canadian ‘Love Your Drive’ playlist.

Niagara Parkway (Ontario)

Winston Churchill described the Niagara Parkway as “the prettiest Sunday drive in the world.” Completed in 1931, this parkway is one of the oldest in Ontario filled with historical towns, natural wonders, and world-class wineries. This scenic road attracts visitors from across the country as it borders the Niagara River and stretches from Niagara-on-the-Lake in the North to Fort Erie in the South, offering all kinds of beauty along the way.

The Sea to Sky Highway 99 (British Columbia)

Set on Canada’s far left coast, this spectacular drive winds from Vancouver to Pemberton, just north of Whistler. Built in the 1960s, this highway offers access to the most beautiful scenery in British Columbia with views of lakes, mountains, inlets, and a waterfall, all in a two-hour drive. Because this is a mountain highway, the weather can be unpredictable. The trip may start with sunshine and end with rain, snow and slush so it’s important to have your winter tires on as they’ll help your vehicle handle these conditions safely.

The Icefields Parkway (Alberta)

If you’re into mountainous drives, get ready to adventure through the Rocky Mountains past emerald lakes and over 100 ancient glaciers. The Icefields Parkway is a 232 km stretch of double-lane highway that takes you through Banff and Jasper National Parks and will make you feel like you’ve entered an ice age. The tough part will be choosing where to stop to take it all in!

St. Lawrence Route (Quebec)

This top-ranked, 58 km majestic drive in Quebec will take you through picturesque villages on the river such as Les Éboulements, Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive and Saint-Irénée, with several attractions to visit along the way.

Cape Breton’s Cabot Trail (Nova Scotia)

This 300 km winding staircase of a road is famous for the views it offers of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the Atlantic Ocean, and lush landscapes. Not only can you journey on one of the most scenic drives on the planet but be sure to plan for several days to enjoy all of the activities the Cabot Trail has to offer, such as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and winter hiking! On top of winter tires, winter wipers are a must to ensure visibility of the road at all times during the more frigid months.
