Five Fall Drives for the Best Canadian Foliage

It’s no secret Canada is known for its lustrous landscapes. Although summer is coming to an end the opportunities for fall travel are endless. There’s nothing quite like the myriad of colours that blanket the Canadian treetops in autumn. From deep reds and burnt oranges to warm yellows and coppers, there’s something magical in the changing leaves.

Stuck on where to go? No problem! We’ve put together a list of the best fall drives the Great White North has to offer. From the surreal forests of the west coast to the picture-perfect beauty in the east, there’s a stretch of road just waiting for you to take in the view.

As you take in the Canadian beauty, don’t forget to set up your music! We’ve put together an all-Canadian mix that’s a perfect accent to the Northern sights.

Muskoka, Ontario

Stretching from Georgian Bay at its most west point to Algonquin Park in the east, the Muskoka region is a favourite among Ontario cottage-goers. The area is famous for its picturesque landscape which once inspired artists ‘The Group of Seven’. Spanning almost 4,000 km2, there’s endless possibilities to scope the fall foliage. Keep an eye out for deer, moose and hawks as you take in the sights!

Laurentian Mountains, Quebec

Situated an hour north of Montreal, the Laurentian Mountains are a maple-tree paradise with all the colours of fall decorating the leaves. Undisturbed forests and crystal waters make this stretch of landscape a photographer’s dream.

Cabot Trail, Nova Scotia

This long stretch of road spanning the northern end of Cape Breton Island shows its best fall colours in the first two weeks of October. Make a stop in Cape Breton Highlands National Park with a picnic and a camera to really take in the magic. With fall festivities like the Celtic Colours International Festival in October, you can easily spend a few days exploring the island.

Cabot Trail, Nova Scotia

Riding Mountain National Park, Manitoba

Take your car along Highway 10, running through Riding Mountain National Park, for the perfect combination of flora and fauna. The prairie landscape is filled with trees that boast all the colours of the rainbow in the fall, with an abundance of wildlife calling it home. Keep an eye out for bison, deer, moose, elk and even black bears as you view the reds and yellows.

Tofino, British Columbia

Tofino is home to beautiful surf beaches, breathtaking hikes, winter storm watching, and more. Before arriving at BC’s coastal gem, enjoy a scenic drive westward from Vancouver Island with endless fall foliage. Whether you begin your drive from Victoria or Nanaimo (plus a ferry sailing if you are travelling from Vancouver), stop over at Englishman River Falls Provincial Park for stunning waterfalls surrounded by lush forest, and don’t forget your camera! For a different point of view, grab a seaplane ride to soar over Tofino and see the autumn colours from a bird’s perspective.
